Nethili karuvadu Chammanthi is one of the favorite chammanthi of dry fish lovers.
INGREDIENTS:
- Dried Anchovies/Unakka Netholi/Netholi Karivadu – 1 cup
- Freshly Grated Coconut – 3/4 cup
- Dried Red Chillies – 8 or according to your taste
- Shallots/Cheriya ulli - 6 nos
- Curry leaves – 1 string
- Ginger - 1"piece
- Cumin Powder/Jeera – 1/8 tsp
- Seedless tamarind – A small piece
- Coconut oil - 1tsp
- Salt - to taste
METHOD:
- Cleaning the Dried Anchovies/Unakka Netholi/Netholi Karivadu is the main process. Cut / pinch off the head and tail part and remove the black part of each anchovies.
- Boil 3 cups of water in the vessel. When water boiled well, switch off the flame and put dry fishes in the water. Leave the dry fishes in the hot water for few minutes. After 30 minutes you can take out Dried Anchovies/Unakka Netholi/Netholi Karivadu from the water . You will see that the sand and skin from the anchovies removed well and all the dirt comes in the water itself.
- Now wash Dried Anchovies/Unakka Netholi/Netholi Karivadu nicely in cold running water .
- Chop Shallots/Cheriya ulli and keep it aside.
- Heat oil in a medium pan and fry Dried Anchovies/Unakka Netholi/Netholi Karivadu in it. Sauté well and fry till it becomes soft and little crispy. Dry it well and keep it aside.
- Heat a small pan and fry the dried red chillies and small onion for 1-2 minutes.
- Now add all the Ingredients ( fried Anchovies/Unakka Netholi, grated coconut,dry chilly ,shallots ,curry leaves tamarind,ginger , cumin powder and salt together in your mixer jar and crush them well.
- No need to grind too much. Just crush well. We need everything to mix together. That is enough.
- Check for the salt. Finally pour 1tsp of coconut oil to the chammanti and mix well.
- Serve Dried Anchovies ( Netholi Karivadu) Chammanthi as a side dish with kanji or rice.
