Mulaku Baji ( Banana Pepper Fritters)

INGREDIENTS:

  • Basen flour (Chickpeas flour /kadala mavu) – 1/2 cup
  • Banana Peppers/Bajji mulaku – 5 nos
  • Rice flour – 1 tbsp
  • Kashmiri chilly powder – 1/4 to 1/2 tsp
  • Asafoetida powder/hing/kayam – a pinch
  • Turmeric powder – a pinch
  • Salt – to taste
  • Baking powder – a pinch
  • Water – as needed
  • Oil – for frying

    METHOD:
    • Wash and drain the Banana Peppers/Bajji mulaku.

    • Take a bowl or plate and mix Basen flour,Rice flour, Salt,Kashmiri chilly powder ,Asafoetida (kayam) powder,Baking powder, Turmeric powder and enough water in it to make a thick batter ( Dosa batter consistency)

    • Make a partial length wise slit in each Banana Pepper ( not cut the edges ) .If u want u can cut them to equal parts .It is not at all spicy ,so no need to remove the seeds from it.

    • Now dip each Banana Peppers/Bajji mulaku in the batter to coat well on all sides .
    • Heat oil in a pan and fry batter coated Banana Peppers/Bajji mulaku in it .
    • When both sides are golden color, remove from the oil and drain them in kitchen tissue.
    • Serve it hot with tomato sauce or any chutney.
    • Enjoy your Mulaku Baji ( Banana Pepper Flitters) with hot Tea or Coffee.
