Paper Plate Flower

Paper Plate Sunflower (4)

Materials Needed:

  • Paper plate
  • Different colors of yarn ( Here I used brown and yellow yarns)
  • Scissor
  • Markers or crayons

Paper Plate Sunflower (1)

METHOID:

  • To make a yarn sunflower,First cut an odd number of small slits around the outside of a paper plate. Make sure that there is an odd number, or else it will not work out right.
  • Take about 12 inches long  brown yarn and glue or place a piece of cello tape  its tail on the back of the plate.
  • Pull the yarn through to the front and get ready to weave.
  • Begin weaving in the center of the plate by going over, under, over, under, and so on.
  • Tie the end of the brown  yarn with another color (I used yellow ) yarn and start weaving.

  • Next, to make the weaving easier, wind up a bobbin. Start by anchoring the end of a 5- or 6-yard length of yellow  yarn by winding it around your forefinger a couple of times. Then wrap the rest of the yarn around your whole hand. When you have about a foot left, carefully pull the yarn from your hand. Wrap the loose end around the center of this yarn a few times and tie it to secure.

  • Weave the yellow  yarn around the spokes of brown  yarn. The yarn should pull neatly from the inside of the bobbin. If you run out of yarn, make and tie on a new bobbin.

  • When your blossom is done, tuck the end of the yarn under the woven section.

  • Cut the edges of a paper plate into points so the plate looks like a flower or a sun.
