INGREDIENTS:
- Chicken breast – 2 nos
- Onion , thinly sliced – 1, big
- Green chilly(cut lengthwise) – 2
- Ginger – 2 “ piece
- Garlic pods –3 nos
- Tomato (chopped) – 1, big
- Green peas – 3/4 cup (washed and cleaned)
- Turmeric powder – 1/4 tsp
- Red Chilly Powder –1 and half tsp
- Coriander powder – 1 tsp
- Broken Star Aniseed – 2 nos
- Fennel powder (perumjeerakam) –1/2 tsp
- Cloves – 3 nos
- Cinnamon powder – 1/4 tsp
- Coconut milk – 1/2 cup
- Chopped Coriander leaves – 2 Tbsp
- Bay leaves – 2 nos
- Coconut Oil – 2 tsp
- Salt as required
- Water – 1 to 1 and 1/2 cups
METHOD:
- Wash the chicken breast , cut them into small bit pieces. Wash the chicken pieces well 2, 3 times. Drain all the water.
- In a small pan add turmeric powder,coriander powder,red chilly powder,fennel powder , cloves,cinnamon powder, Broken Star Aniseed and roast well till light brown in color. let it cool 5 minutes.
- Add cleaned chicken pieces in a mixing bowl, add all the roasted powders , salt, 1 tsp ginger garlic paste and rub it into the chicken. Allow it to rest for 30 minutes to 1 hour either in the refrigerator or at room temperature.
- Meanwhile slice onion, and tomato and keep it aside.
- Heat 2 tsp of oil in a heavy bottomed pan and add chopped onions,green chilly, bay leaves, 1/2 tsp ginger-garlic paste, and sauté well till the onion become soft.
- To this add roasted turmeric powder,coriander powder,red chilly powder,fennel seeds powder,and sauté well. Cover it and cook for 2 minutes.
- Open the lid and add chopped tomatoes and sauté well.( I usually grinding the chopped tomatoes and adding that tomato paste) cover and cook for 10 minutes in medium heat.
- Then add chicken pieces to it. Add 1 cup of water to it and mix well.
- Cover with the lid and cook for 15 minutes.Then open the the lid and stir well.
- Now add green peas , cover and cook for another 15 minutes.
- Then add coconut milk and sauté well and let it boil for 3 – 5 minutes. Check for the salt.
- Finally garnish curry with Coriander leaves.
- Yummy chicken green peas curry is ready to serve .
NOTE::
- If you don’t have cloves, cinnamon, and fennel powder, and broken star aniseed , you can use 1/2 tsp of Garam masala and 1 tsp of Meat masala.
- This is thick Spicy Chicken Green Peas Curry . You can adjust the consistency of this curry by adding warm water.
